Patty Maher
The Salvage Mission (Series)
DESCRIPTION
During the spring of 2022, I stumbled upon a nearby car graveyard that immediately captivated me. The sight of rusted, broken, and decaying vintage cars slowly being reclaimed by nature stirred my imagination. Each vehicle in the yard had once lived its own unique life and held its own story, but those tales had come to an end, leaving them to deteriorate amidst a tangled fusion of soil and metal. Intrigued by the notion of breathing new life and narrative into these vehicles, I embarked on a mission to “salvage” them through photography. By digitally extracting them and situating them in new backgrounds within the context of a story, I aimed to reveal the true beauty of their rust and decay, allowing viewers to appreciate their essence through the transformative powers of space and imagination. Every object deserves a final tale.
